The Yorkton Regional High School and Sacred Heart will get one last chance at some practice this weekend when the Regional hosts a mini four-team tournament.

Playing will be both Yorkton schools as well as Weyburn and Melville.

Garrett Karcha, head coach of Sacred Heart, said he hopes it will be one he hopes they can play and work out any issues in preparation for the upcoming Conferences.

"It's basically a tuner-upper for conferences next week," he said. "The plan is to play everybody."The schedule will see Sacred Heart and YRHS play each other at 4 p.m. He said he will be hoping for some good games from some of his most dependable point-getters, including Dalen Brueckner, Mark Kuemper and Justin Genaille, each of whom had big games at the Lumsden/Balgonie Super Hoops tournament recently. Karcha said the games this weekend should serve the teams well.

He hopes for good play but added that wins won't be as crucial as they will be when conference play starts shortly after.

"You have to win your first game at conference, one vs. four, two vs. three," he said of the playoff matchups at conference.

He added that he likes his team's chances if they can use the fast break to their advantage.

He also likes the experience level of the team he coaches. Most of them have been playing basketball since Gr. 9 and know what to expect from themselves.

"They've been there before. They're pretty coachable."

Karcha added that he expects to play everybody. Sacred Heart's record going into this weekend is 19-4.

Weyburn and Melville will play at 5:40 p.m. YRHS will play Weyburn in the first game on Saturday at 10 a.m. Sacred Heart plays Melville at 11:40 a.m.

After lunch break, the Saints tangle with Weyburn at 3 p.m., and the Raiders host Melville at 4:40 p.m., to bring the weekend set to an end.
