Stackhouse Soapbox - Not impressed with PM's position on Khadr

In the wake of some of Justin Trudeau’s comments about a Canadian being a Canadian and that you can never take that away from someone no matter what they’ve done, I’d like to alert you to a lady named Christiane Boudreau.

In the wake of some of Justin Trudeau’s comments about a Canadian being a Canadian and that you can never take that away from someone no matter what they’ve done, I’d like to alert you to a lady named Christiane Boudreau. She’s, currently, stuck in France and unable to come home because she had to surrender her passport due to an administrative investigation whereby she’s accused of leaving off the name of her child’s father on the documentation. But, make no mistake. This isn’t about that. Christiane had another son, who became radicalized in Canada and had no trouble getting a passport despite being under CSIS surveillance for two years. That son ended up being killed while fighting for ISIS in Syria. Christiane has become very outspoken about the Canadian government’s poor efforts to prevent radicalization here at home and she feels the feds can best keep her quiet by making her sit in France, unable to return to Canada and give speeches to people so they can become better educated on the matter. My question is that if Omar Khadr, who was a Canadian for five minutes, is considered a Canadian citizen and we have to bend over backwards to give an apology for breaching his rights and making sure he feels welcome here; why can’t this woman get back her passport and return home? Even if the accusation regarding her youngest son’s passport information is found to be true, surely they can still accompany her and the boy back to Canada and deal with it here. I’m sure it will cost a lot less than the $10.5-million that was given to Khadr.
Here’s just one problem with mainstream media: last week Global News promoted Trudeau’s Spotify playlist. Over the weekend, CBC reported Trudeau roasted some marshmallows while on his ‘working’ vacation to Nova Scotia. Do you think Stephen Harper listened to music or ever roasted marshmallows? Why is it news when Boy Blunder does it?
What’s become accepted in Canada is the role of Prime Minister to be an activist and humanitarian. While Trudeau is applauded for handing out phoney smiles and marching in parades, there is next to no criticism with regards to how he runs the country. We’ve just resigned ourselves to the fact that marching in parades and pandering to special interest groups is how you run a country. After all, it promotes all inclusiveness. Making decisions about economics, finances, infrastructure, international relations and other various things that affect quality of life for Canadians isn’t in the cards. I just don’t know how or why we’ve gotten to this point.
Also over the weekend, Trudeau blasted the Conservatives for appearing on American news programs to get the word out that regular Joe Canada does not approve of paying a terrorist $10.5 million. Trudeau doesn’t feel this is any of the United States’ business and the Conservatives are playing dirty by promoting their agenda to the American people while Trudeau is trying to hammer out a favorable NAFTA agreement. Instead of blasting Conservatives, why doesn’t Trudeau use this platform as an opportunity to educate the 79% of Canadians and 99% of Americans who are stupid to the Khadr issue. That’s the explanation of choice that I seem to get when I aks why so many people oppose this payment. We just don’t get it. By the way, in case you didn’t know, it was two Americans (one killed, one badly injured) who were victimized by Khadr. That’s why the US television outlets have all of a sudden taken an interest in Canadian politics. If Trudeau doesn’t like it, then he shouldn’t have ponied up cash to a guy who asked for repatriation as a resolution to his charter rights breach complaint.
Closer to home, SGI is going after the drinking establishments who served Catherine McKay the night she got drunk and then drove before killing a family of four near Martensville in January 2016. McKay is doing her time at a healing lodge, rehabilitating. So, it’s really not her fault. It’s the fault of the bars and their staff. I mean police need breathalyzers to determine if you are drunk, but apparently SGI feels they taught intellectual breathalyzer skills at serving school. Bartenders are responsible for the actions of their customers. The customer has no responsibility. Pass the buck. Unaccountable. Canada 2017.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are now 1-and-3 after getting their lunch fed to them over the weekend in Calgary. I’m going to suggest one more week of Kevin Glenn and then it’s time to see what else you have at quarterback. Glenn has been a capable performer through the first four games, but at 37-years-old, he’s not the future. I don’t know if Brandon Bridge is the future either and that’s the problem. We need to find out. Because if he’s not, we need to get someone in here who is. So far, there hasn’t been a lot of drama. No fines, no revolving door of players coming and going, no pending disasters or feuds. In fact, I think the Riders have some workable pieces. It’s just a matter of putting them together and continuing to improve.
Nice people this week: Kathleen Quan, Darrin Campbell, Paula Andreoli, Carla Bugera, and Kelsey Kaban.
