Stackhouse Soapbox - Trump misunderstood by media

Unfortunately, England fell victim to another terror attack over the weekend as seven more people, needlessly, lost their lives and dozens more suffered injuries. I don’t expect anything to change.

Unfortunately, England fell victim to another terror attack over the weekend as seven more people, needlessly, lost their lives and dozens more suffered injuries. I don’t expect anything to change. Two weeks ago, innocent children were killed in Manchester and that wasn’t enough to get us to change politically correct stances when it comes to how we view extreme Islam. We are far too worried about hurting a few feelings more than we are concerned about taking measures that could save lives. Some apologists have gone so far to say that terrorism is no different than being the victim of a drunk driver or being involved in an unfortunate accident.  It’s something you can’t control so why violate someone else’s human rights in order to stay alive when you could die anyway from something totally different. Well, that’s a real pleasant way of looking at it, but you do know that not all drunk drivers kill people.  There are many who will drive drunk on a regular basis their whole life and never kill a soul. That doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous and we shouldn’t have laws to protect those of us who didn’t sign up to be a victim.
Twitter can be a good and bad place to go for news when it comes to terror attacks. We know you can’t trust mainstream media as CNN was caught, this weekend, staging a fake protest to paint a specific narrative. This won’t get a whole lot of attention, however, as it really damages the credibility of all of them. Anyways, that’s not my point. The thing with Twitter is that it’s up to you to sort through what you think is true, correct, and good opinion. You will see a wide range and the one thing that has really struck me is how out of touch Hollywood types are.  JK Rowling, of Harry Potter fame, called Donald Trump a blowhard for saying we need to put an end to political correctness in order to make our countries safer.  She points out that emergency response times were within minutes of the attack and he shouldn’t criticize a job well done.  Yet, she doesn’t understand that an end to political correctness, possibly, assures this attack doesn’t happen and whether police respond within two minutes, five minutes, ten minutes, or twenty minutes doesn’t change the unnecessary loss of human life.
The endless tweets of peace and love from the stars of our favorite television shows are nice and well, but if Kunal Nayyar (Big Bang Theory) lost a loved one over the weekend, he wouldn’t be as quick to tell us love conquers all, carry on as normal, don’t worry about it.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews got in on the act last week too, with a preachy comment about the environment. I wonder if it has occurred to him the needless travel and pollution that was created by his parents when Jonathan was a teenager playing hockey at Shattuck-St.Mary’s. Had he stayed home and played hockey in Winnipeg I’m sure the NHL still would have found him. The Blackhawks charter jet and the 30 arenas he plays in over the course of a season are polluters as well. People have to understand that pollution and environmental harm are unavoidable. Until you live in a tent and ride a bike for transportation; you just don’t have a leg to stand on with this argument. There are massive companies out there who are being environmentally responsible and they still take a beating from the celebrities who don’t care one little bit as to what they contribute on a personal level and live like kings and queens.
Another example of how selective the media has become is with the United States withdrawing from the Paris Climate Change Accord.  If you watched mainstream media, you would be under the impression that the USA doesn’t care about the environment and it’s open season for industries that contribute, greatly, to air pollution. This just isn’t true.  President Trump stated there will be an environment policy, but it will be geared towards what is best for his country while balancing what’s best for the environment and not based on what’s best for some other country.
Keep in mind that I am not a big Trump supporter, but I do feel he gets an unfair shake in the public eye because the media is at odds with him and continuing this battle seems to be good for ratings; although I find myself following mainstream news media less and less.
In Canada, mainstream media has adopted the term ‘social conservative’ in an effort to sabotage Andrew Scheer and his bid to unseat Justin Trudeau in 2019.  While Scheer admits to being Pro-Life with his personal beliefs, he has also stressed that he’s not interested in reopening the issue politically. He has said that he recognizes there isn’t an appetite for it and he wants to abide by the wishes of Canadians. Yet, I’ve seen ore than one interview with Scheer where a reporter has tried to either trick him into an answer or force him to say something he doesn’t believe.
Nice person mentions to: Doug Jonassen, Trevor Hove, Lois Okrainec, Angie Johnson, and Ryan Fox.
