Dear Editor:
Yorkton… a summer to remember!
Feeling like we can finally catch our breath — the staff at the Visitor’s Centre, home of Tourism Yorkton, has had an incredible summer!
Welcoming thousands of people to the Visitor’s Centre, this has been one of the busiest summers on record for us!
Yorkton continues to be a tourism city and is recognized as the event capital of East Central Saskatchewan. Many thanks to the volunteers, attractions, sponsors and the organizers of the events held over the summer, bringing visitors from many locations to our city. Tourism is consistently in the top five industries that economically drives our trading area. Every Yorkton resident and business is a critical part of the tourism Industry.
Everyone contributes, our businesses contribute by being welcoming! Window displays, a building in good repair, swept sidewalks and entry ways and friendly staff will all add to the general experience of the tourists that drive and walk around our city.
Residents add to the tourism industry in Yorkton by being courteous drivers, waving at people who are clearly not from here (plates, rental cars, looking lost) and always, smile.
Take the time to be a tourist in your own city. We have a treasure here that thousands of visitors travel many miles and spend lots of their hard-earned money just to visit. We are fortunate enough to live here. So, go ahead and explore our home, and take in some of the sights, sounds and flavours our beloved city has to offer!
Tourism Yorkton would like to take a moment to thank our summer staff, who answered innumerable questions, wrote on thousands of maps (upside down, no less), pointed in the direction of the attractions, services and many eating establishments, and generally made tourists visiting our centre an even happier crowd.
Thank you, Brittany, Andrew and Laurel. You were an amazing group to work with.
The Visitor Centre is open year-round, so be sure to contact us, to see how we can help with your events, conferences or tournaments this fall.
