The weather Olympics election (WOE) summer events

This last while, there have been many things which occupy our attention. The kind of weather we have been having is one of them. Then there is the Olympics filling in the good portion of the days in August.

This last while, there have been many things which occupy our attention. The kind of weather we have been having is one of them. Then there is the Olympics filling in the good portion of the days in August. Another is the never-ending antics of the US election, which leave many shaking their heads in disbelief.

Weather conversation is on everyone’s mind. Coffee rows have many spins on it and it is something you can talk about all year long with the changing seasons. After a mild winter, predictions were for a hot dry summer. We got the reverse with many rainy days which led to extensive flooding in many areas.

Then there were many warnings and watches for severe weather with the danger of strong winds, large hail and even tornadoes. As a result of the hailstorms, harvest will be cut short at our farm.

The Olympics had me watching more TV than what I normally do, especially in the daytime. Perhaps it was all the negative reports on the preparedness of Brazil that sparked the interest. Just how bad could it be?  Well, we got exposed to some of the poor districts of Rio de Janeiro, but we also saw the beauty of the country. The Christ the Redeemer statue, with out-stretched arms, is placed high on the mountain top and keeps a watch on the city below.

Pollution and garbage on the waters, along with the weather have caused concerns.  All in all, the games carried on, with athletes having some disappointments and medal wins while “Lucky Penny” became a national sweetheart with her medals.

Then there is the election in the United States. I don’t think there was ever an election that drew so much interest for the wrong reasons. It is unbelievable how many various attacks and controversy one candidate can come up with. Needless to say, if I was   American, I would be deeply concerned with his leadership.

            What will happen next?
