Event remembers Outlook and area hockey player

Special event honours memory of departed Outlook goalie & friend

OUTLOOK - Just days after the Outlook Ice Hawks won the provincial championship at home in the Jim Kook Rec Plex, another event took place honouring a former teammate and a friend to many.

On Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2, the Bartsy Memorial Rec Tournament helped remember the late Brad Barton, the celebrated goaltender of both the Conquest Merchants and then the Ice Hawks who passed away suddenly in February 2020.

The action on the ice over both days provided spectators with some solid action, with some of the team names being more adult than others, proving that this event was really just about having fun and not taking the sport so seriously. Teams in Pool A included Dump 'n Chase, the San Jose Sharts, the Ice Cocks, and the Mid Ice Crisis, while in Pool B were the Merwings, the Foat Guckers, the Dynamoes, and making a return to the sport of hockey were the jerseys of the Conquest Merchants.

Over the course of both days, teams played 50-minute exhibition games. Following the ice action, a steak supper followed by a dance was enjoyed by many on Saturday night.
