First Nations hoop dancer Littletent returns to Outlook

Dancer first brought the Outlook house down last July in Canada Day appearance

OUTLOOK - Anyone who was in attendance during the appearance by First Nations hoop dancer Terrance Littletent during the town of Outlook's Canada Day festivities last July will likely still vividly remember the solemn and showstopping performance.

Making a return to town last week, Littletent, who is from the Kawacatoose Cree Nation and was born in Regina, brought along a new show and even a dance partner, Chancz Perry, with the duo entertaining students from Outlook Elementary School, Outlook High School and LCBI High School at the Jim Kook Rec Plex on Tuesday afternoon, May 24 as part of an extensive 45-stop tour of school shows around the province.

Chancz, who has spent over 30 years in the entertainment industry on stage, on screen and behind the scenes, was nominated for two Jessie Richardson Awards and was a recipient of the Vancouver Sun Reader's Choice Award for Entertainer of the Year.

The show that they're touring with is something of a fusion that brings together the constant beat of Littletent's First Nations hoop dancing with an influence of North American hip-hop rhythms provided by Perry.

Such a pairing seemed to result in an exceptionally entertaining show for the students, judging from the 'oohhs' and 'aahhs' that could be heard throughout the performance. While the kids were witness to a celebrated art form, Terrance and Chancz also made sure to educate them on some First Nations history, giving the students perhaps a more well-rounded and deep-rooted view of the province of Saskatchewan that they call home today.

Blending Terrance's audience-lifting dancing skills with Chancz's eye-popping hip-hop moves, the show seemed to be a hit with all the students, as well as teachers and staff. Of particular note was when the lights went out in the Rec Plex, signalling Littletent's crowd-pleasing hoop dance where one's eyes need to follow the bold and bright colours in all the directions that they go.
