Canora RCMP: Hair supplies stolen from Preeceville hair salon

A Preeceville hair salon was damaged and hair supplies were stolen on Feb. 17.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP dealt with a hitchhiker, a prohibited driver, and a man peeking into a window (he was the landlord making sure a tenant was gone).

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 33 calls from Feb. 15 to Feb. 2, some of which included:

  • two assaults,
  • six 911 Act calls,
  • two break and enters,
  • one failure to comply with conditions,
  • five false alarms,
  • one lost and found,
  • two Mental Health Act calls,
  • one mischief,
  • one suspicious person,
  • two thefts,
  • seven traffic offenses,
  • two traffic collisions,
  • and two wellbeing checks.

Bad hair day?

On Feb. 17, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a break and enter to a hair salon in Preeceville. The business was damaged and hair supplies were stolen. Police continue to investigate.

Prohibited driver caught

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 21 to a report of a man purchasing alcohol and driving while prohibited to do so in Canora. The man is currently on a conditional sentence order. Police continue to investigate.

Not a peeping Tom

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report that a man was peeking in a window of a residence in Canora on Feb. 21. Police investigated and determined the man was checking on the tenants in the home to determine if they had vacated the premises after being evicted. 

Major driver error

On Feb. 21, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report that a van had driven onto the median on Norway Road in Canora and had gotten stuck. Police investigated and determined the incident was caused by driver error.

Hitchhiker fracas

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 21 to nine 911 calls in the RM of Preeceville.

Police were first dispatched to a report that an intoxicated hitchhiker was picked up and had started to act up in the backseat of the caller’s vehicle. The hitchhiker fled the vehicle after being assaulted by another passenger. The hitchhiker ran through a field to a nearby farm house, losing his shoes in the process.

The hitchhiker was taken to hospital by EMS. The passenger was arrested for assault and the caller was issued a 72-hour driving suspension and a ticket for driving while suspended. Police continue to investigate. Alcohol and drugs were contributing factors.
