Sturgis site of hockey day showcase for minor hockey

Older hockey players show the way for youngsters learning the game

STURGIS - Hockey players were joined by family and friends, who enjoyed watching a full day of hockey games at the Sturgis Skating Arena on February 12.

“The fundraiser event was great with lots of people coming to watch and support our local hockey groups,” said Shawna Johnson, one of the organizers.

The day kicked off with the U7 players on the ice facing off against Norquay. Next was the U9 team who took on Kamsack. The U11 team also took on the U11 Kamsack team. The day concluded with the U13 team playing a fast paced game against Canora. No scored were available at press time.

Members of the U15 Highway Predators hockey team helped out with tying skates and offering their support to the younger teams.

Winners of the 50/50 hockey puck were Eugene Boychuk and Gavin Erickson. Ron Wagar won the progressive 50/50 raffle.
