Mr. Paul Lachowsky of Yorkton, beloved husband of Edythe, entered eternal rest on November 9, 2011. He was 83 years of age. Paul was born November 28, 1927 in Ukraine to Mykita and Maria (Kluzchowsky) Lachowsky. Paul left Ukraine in 1950 to Canada and to a new life. They first settled near St. Eustache, MB where he found employment at a sugar beet factory. After three years the family moved to Portage La Prairie and he worked for CP Rail. He met the love of his life (Edythe) in 1952 while she was working at the Portage La Prairie Bus Depot. He was a regular customer of hers, ordering his usual (french fries and milk). Paul married Edythe Filipchuk on April 30, 1955 and made their home in Portage and started to raise a family. In 1962, after 17 years of employment with CP Rail, Paul decided to move his family to a farm near Gorlitz, SK and try a new adventure in life and started farming. Paul and Edythe became well known farmers, raising beef, pork, poultry and his favourite of all, wheat. Paul took great pride in farming techniques, his fields always had to be weed-free and perfectly sowed and harvested. Many nights during harvest time, Paul and his sons harvested until the early hours of the morning trying to get the crops off before the frost and snow. His farm animals were always well cared for, they were more like pets, some of them even had names. Paul was always busy on the farm, if he wasn't working in the fields, maintaining the farm equipment or tending to the livestock, he was busy in the workshop. He was proud of his Ukrainian Heritage, he loved the music, food, dance and a good conversation in his native language. He believed in God and in the Catholic faith and attended church services regularly. Paul and Edythe's home was always a place for family and friends. You always enjoyed home cooked meals, playing cards and a conversation about the good old days. Family, friends and neighbours were very important to Paul, both on the farm and in the city. Paul and Edythe continued farming until Paul's health started failing which led to them selling the farm and moving to Yorkton in 2003. Enjoying his retirement years in the city, Paul continued his hobby of tinkering in the garage or the downstairs shop, always fixing something. Paul was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and fought a courageous battle until he was called to the wheat fields of heaven. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Mykita & Maria Lachowsky, parents-in-law Alex & Lena Filipchuk, brothers Philip & Peter, sister-in-law Ann Lachowsky, nephew Johnny Lachowsky, niece Lisa Tkatch & great niece Sheena Norberg. Paul is survived by his loving wife Edythe, his children Ernest (Margaret) Lachowsky, David (Shauna) Lachowsky, Vladamair Lachowsky, Elizabeth (Chris) Woloschuk and Christopher (Starla) Lachowsky; his grandchildren Shawn (Melanie), Ashley, Laura (Jason), Raylene, Jennifer, Taylor, Chayla, Paul, Nikyta and Zakary; his great grandchildren Brandon & Brittaney; in-laws, Hofia Lachowsky, Alice Tkatch, Mike & Helen Filipchuk, Allan & Judy Filipchuk and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayers were held on Friday, November 11, and Requiem Divine Liturgy was held on Saturday, November 12 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Laura Uhryn and the candle bearer was Jennifer Woloschuk. The epistle reader was Margaret Lachowsky. The interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Ernest Lachowsky, David Lachowsky, Vladamair Lachowsky, Christopher Lachowsky, Shawn Lachowsky and Taylor Lachowsky serving as the casket bearers. Nephew, Bohdan Lachowsky shared reflections of his uncle's life. Memorial donations honouring Paul's life can be made to the Yorkton Hospital Building Fund as gifts of remembrance.
