Mrs. Katie Sorochan entered eternal rest on November 13, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after her short battle with cancer. She was 67 years of age. Katie Sorochan (Marchuk) was born September 22, 1944 on the family farm nine miles north of Theodore. She was the youngest daughter of the late William and Mary Marchuk. She received her education at Czernowitz School. Katie helped out on the family farm until her late teens, when she met Matt Sorochan, and they were married July 1963 at Drobot Church. Katie worked beside her husband on their farm, south of Sheho until his sudden passing on December 12, 1988. She started cooking at the Legion Hall in Yorkton, and later cooked at numerous restaurants and establishments. Her love in life was cooking. She always tried new recipes and tested them out on her family. She cooked for all her nieces and nephews weddings and all family functions. Katie helped cater at many functions and before her sickness, worked at the Gallagher Centre; preparing, cooking, and serving at the canteen and convention centre. Katie loved her garden and flowers and kept her yard meticulous. She liked her stylish clothing and loved to go out and have fun. She loved life in general. Katie was also the family barber and seamstress. She also loved animals; especially her cat Freddie and her dog Gypsy. They were like her children. One of her favourite pastimes, when she wasn't working, was visiting and playing cards with her neighbours. Katie loved all her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Although she had no children of her own, she was always more than happy to look after them when needed. Katie was a member of the Kuprowsky Church and later became a member of the Sheho Orthodox Church. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, in Yorkton. Katie was predeceased by her husband Matt in 1988; her mother Mary in 1963; father William in 1967; her sister Olga in 1984; her brother Martin in 2001; and niece Virginia in 1957.
