EASTERN SASKATCHEWAN — A tornado watch is in effect for portions of eastern Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada issued the watch in the early afternoon of Aug. 20 for portions of eastern Saskatchewan, including the Yorkton and Carlyle areas. Communities with 39 RMs are affected.
"A low over Montana is bringing moisture and heat over southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba, which will give a high potential for tornadoes, significant hail, strong winds and torrential precipitation this evening," the advisory states. "Thunderstorms should start late this afternoon, ... continue throughout the evening and taper off late this evening."
The agency says tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
SaskToday will have updates as they become available.
