REGINA — Premier Scott Moe does not support Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's invoking the Emergencies Act to end anti-government blockades the PM describes as illegal.

In a Facebook message, Moe stated, “The illegal blockades must end, but police already have sufficient tools to enforce the law and clear the blockades, as they did over the weekend in Windsor.”

He continued, “Therefore, Saskatchewan does not support the Trudeau government invoking the Emergencies Act.”

Moe's message was posted about three hours before Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act. At that time, Moe stated, “If the federal government does proceed with this measure, I would hope it would only be invoked in provinces that request it, as the legislation allows.”

This is the first time the Emergencies Act has been invoked since it came into force in 1988.
