Weekly COVID update: 1,567 new cases since Aug. 25, 977 recoveries, 11 deaths

REGINA — Saskatchewan’s weekly update on COVID-19 numbers is once again available, showing a continued increase in active cases over the past week.

In the period between Aug. 25 and Aug. 31, an additional 1,567 new cases were reported, bringing the current total of cases in Sask. to 54,367. Of those cases, 18 were confirmed to be variants of concern.

Recoveries totalled 977 in the last week, and 11 new deaths were recorded.

The current seven-day average of new COVID cases in the province is 248, or 20.6 per 100,000 people.

The province currently has 130 individuals in hospital for reasons relating to COVID-19, with 100 receiving inpatient care and 30 in intensive care.

Of those hospitalized, 94 — or 74.6 per cent — are not fully vaccinated.

In the past week, public health has delivered an additional 13,994 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, bringing the overall number administered in the province to 1,476,374.

Currently, 68 per cent of residents over the age of 12 in Saskatchewan are fully vaccinated, while 77 per cent have received a first dose.

A total of 21,221 COVID-19 tests were also processed in the past week.
