Armed robbery in Delmas sends man to hospital

Police make multiple arrests, issue warrant for a suspect.

DELMAS – An armed robbery sent one man to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Battleford RCMP were called to the village of Delmas at 10 p.m on Nov. 18 where the robbery occurred in a home.

“Three suspects entered the residence and a male in his fifties was injured in the arm when one suspect opened fire with a firearm,” RCMP said in a media release. “The suspects also fired the weapon at a second victim who was not struck before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.”

Police report that one suspect was arrested at a residence close to where the armed robbery occurred, and a 43-year-old man was taken into custody without incident. He was scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Nov. 21 on numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm; aggravated assault; forcible entry; careless use of a firearm; and discharging a firearm with intent.

A second arrest was made one day after the incident, a 16-year-old youth in the Onion Lake area. They were also set to appear in court on Nov. 21, facing charges of robbery with a firearm; discharging a firearm with intent; possession of a prohibited weapon; possession of a weapon contrary to an order; forcible entry; aggravated assault; and breach of probation.

A third suspect remains at large, and an arrest warrant has been issued.

Battleford GTF members arrested two other suspects at around 11:30 p.m. on the same night as the robbery. They discovered the duo inside a parked vehicle that was registered to one of the suspects. While a 21-year-old woman has since been released without charges, a 29-year-old was arrested on outstanding warrants for a parole violation. Police note that he is not facing any charges related to the armed robbery.
