Original story: A body was found in a structure fire in the 1300 block of Idylwyld Drive North Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:18 p.m., fire crews found an unknown aged male who had died in the fire on the upper floor. The Saskatoon Fire Department says it’s not known at this time why the deceased occupant was unable to get out of the home.

The fire department got a 911 call around 12:59 p.m. May 17 that a there was a structure fire. No other information was provided and the caller hung up, said the fire department.

Three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.  The first arriving fire crew reported smoke showing from the attic of a one-and-a-half story residential structure.

Four occupants had evacuated the burning house. One occupant had attempted to extinguish the fire while on the roof of an adjacent shed. This individual ended up with singed hair but no other injuries and declined medical care.

Firefighters broke in the front door, which was locked when they arrived and they started interior extinguishment.  One of the occupants that had evacuated safely reported to the fire crews that there was possibly one occupant still inside. An interior search for the occupant began.

This fire was brought under control at 1:21 p.m. and the fire scene has been turned over to the fire investigator at 2:33 p.m. for an investigation.

The fire department says an update will be provided as soon as practical.
