Convicted killer Nicholas Buck charged with assault at Sask Pen

On March 4, 2021, Nicholas Buck was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility in 12 years for the murder of Mark Douglas Jonson, 61, in North Battleford on July 2, 2019.

PRINCE ALBERT – Nicholas Buck, who was convicted of second-degree murder in March 2021, has been charged with assault at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert.

Buck was scheduled to make his first appearance on the assault charge in Saskatchewan Penitentiary Court in Prince Albert on Dec. 13. He didn’t appear and the Crown prosecutor asked the court for a production order for Buck to appear from Sask. Penitentiary on Jan. 10, 2024.

In July 2019, Buck, then 23, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the death of Mark Douglas Jonson, 61, in North Battleford July 2, 2019. Buck's jury trial was scheduled for February 2021, but, instead, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on March 4, 2021.

He was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility in 12 years.

Battlefords RCMP had found Jonson deceased in a home on the 1500 block of 100 Street on July 5, 2019.
