Foul play not suspected in death of Pine Grove inmate

The inmate was found unresponsive on a living unit at Pine Grove Correctional Centre.

Pine Grove Correctional Centre for Women is located a few kilometres north of the City of Prince Albert.

PRINCE ALBERT — A 24-year-old female inmate on remand was declared deceased on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.

A release issued by Corrections, Policing and Public Safety says the inmate was found unresponsive on a living unit at Pine Grove Correctional Centre at approximately 4:10 p.m. Corrections staff initiated life saving measures and called EMS, says the release. EMS transported her to the hospital, where she was declared deceased at approximately 5:21 p.m.

The Prince Albert Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been notified and are investigating. The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety will also be conducting an internal investigation.

No foul play is suspected at this time. Next of kin have been notified.
