BIG ISLAND LAKE – Police have identified the human remains found at the Big Island Lake Cree Nation landfill in April.

The remains belong to Randy Wallace George who was reported missing to the Pierceland RCMP on Big Island Lake Cree Territory on July 11, 2013. He was 38-years-old when he was reported missing.

In April 2023, a forensic autopsy conducted by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service determined the human remains belonged to an adult male, who had been deceased for approximately 10 years.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Historical Case Unit [HCU] compared these details to missing person files from the area in that time range. A potential identity was established and investigators contacted their family to further the investigation.

In May 2023, a familial DNA comparison and analysis was completed. It determined the remains belong George.

His death is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

His family has been notified. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

If you have information about any missing person, even if time has passed, please report it to your local police of jurisdiction. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
