ESTEVAN - The man charged in connection with an armed standoff in Estevan a few weeks ago has been released with conditions.

Jordan Hochstein, 27, made an appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday morning. He is facing several charges in connection with the incident, including one count each of taking a hostage, resisting arrest, mischief and failing to comply with the conditions of a release order, and three counts of uttering threats to cause death. All charges are under the Criminal Code.

Hochstein had matters before the court when the incident happened.

He had been in custody at the Regina Correctional Facility prior to Monday's appearance.

On Aug. 5 at about 10:30 a.m., the EPS was alerted to a residence in the 1300-block of Eighth Street. The situation developed into what the EPS described as an armed standoff with a barricaded person and a potential hostage.

The Weyburn and Estevan police Joint Tactical Support Team, along with crisis negotiators and extra patrol members, were called in for support. Following a brief period of negotiations with Hochstein, he gave himself up without further incident.

An elderly subject, known to Hochstein, was in the residence and was unharmed.

Hochstein is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 3.
