Jury trial set for two charged in Trinity Squirrel's murder

Bret Rattlesnake and Cynthia Swiftwolf are charged with second-degree murder in the death of Trinity Squirrel.

SASKATOON – A jury trial is scheduled for two people charged with second-degree murder in Trinity Squirrel’s death.

The trial for Bret Ian Rattlesnake, 28, and Cynthia Cheryl Chelsey Swiftwolf, 34, will start in June 2024, in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench.

A third accused, Shanelle Crowe, 21, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. She is scheduled to be sentenced in Saskatoon Provincial Court Aug. 31.

Squirrel was found injured on Hodgson Road near Highway 7 about five kilometres southwest of Saskatoon at about 1:15 p.m. on April 15, 2022. He was pronounced deceased shortly after emergency responders arrived.

An obituary for Squirrel on Conley Funeral Home said that Trin was an active member of the Fishing Lake community and a volunteer firefighter for the First Nation’s fire department.
