LLOYDMINSTER – A man arrested by Maidstone RCMP Roving Traffic Unit, who faces charges of laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars and trafficking drugs, has a preliminary hearing set in Lloydminster court for February 2024.
Mohamed Ilmi, 46, of Edmonton, Alta., was in Lloydminster, Sask., court on Thursday to enter an election on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, laundering the proceeds of crime, possession of proceeds of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and seven firearms-related offences.
When Ilmi was stopped by Maidstone RCMP Roving Traffic Unit on May 31, they saw a large amount of bundled Canadian currency in plain view. They investigated further and found several more bundles of hundreds of thousands of dollars in vacuum-sealed packages. Police say they also found a restricted handgun, two loaded magazine cartridges, and a large amount of methamphetamine.
