SASKATOON – A man accused of threatening RCMP officers with a bladed weapon was remanded in custody after appearing in Saskatoon Provincial Court April 9.

Warman RCMP say that 51-year-old Glen John Friesen from Radisson was seen driving directly at the RCMP detachment in Warman at about 11:20 a.m. on April 8. His vehicle came to a stop just before hitting the detachment.

When officers approached, they say Friesen got out of the vehicle with a bladed weapon and uttered threats. They issued several verbal commands attempting to de-escalate the situation, but he didn’t comply.

This prompted officers to use pepper spray on him. He was arrested and provided with first-aid assessment from the OC spray.

Friesen was charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and dangerous driving.

The Crown is opposed to Friesen’s release, and he has a show cause hearing scheduled Thursday.
