SASKATOON – A 40-year-old man accused of killing 55-year-old Randy Beauchesne in a random attack at the Royal University Hospital will stand trial.

The charge of second-degree murder against Kevin Witchekan went by direct indictment by the Crown to Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench. He is back in court Aug. 28 for a pre-trial conference.

Saskatoon police arrested Witchekan at RUH on June 13, 2022, following the stabbing that left Beauchesne with a serious brain injury and on life support.

On a gofundmepage, Terri Barnes, who started the fundraiser for Beauchesne’s family, said that Beauchesne was attacked from behind in an apparent mistaken identity.

Beauchesne was taken off life-support on Aug. 5, 2022, and died from his injuries. Beauchesne was a self-employed arborist for more than 35 years and was active in the martial arts, posted Barnes.
