LLOYDMINSTER – A police chase on Onion Lake ended after the vehicle driven by the fleeing suspects ran out of gas.

Onion Lake RCMP say that at about 4 a.m. on June 1 they got a call about a violent home invasion. Several people had broken into a home and assaulted a man. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers immediately responded but the suspects had fled. About four hours later, an Onion Lake RCMP officer conducting a patrol in the area spotted the vehicle at a business on Onion Lake. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle didn’t stop and continued southbound on Highway 17 and then east on Highway 3, before running out of gas.

Officers arrested the four occupants without incident. One occupant was released without charges and police say their investigation continues.

Jamie Chief, 31, of Onion Lake, and Darnell Parenteau, 23, of Saskatoon, are both charged with assault causing bodily harm and break and enter to commit an offence. Parenteau was also charged with three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.

They appeared in Lloydminster, Sask., court June 2 and are scheduled back in court June 12.

A woman was charged with flight from police and appears in court July 5.
