Police nab man with machete

Suspect was threatening another male and refusing to leave premises, say police.

REGINA – Waving a machete around and threatening people is one way to attract the attention of police.

That situation is exactly what RPS members found themselves involved in during the evening of Nov. 29, responding to a report of an intoxicated man refusing to leave a premises on the 2300 block of 12th Avenue.

While responding to the call, police were informed that the male suspect had a bladed weapon in his possession.

“As officers arrived, they observed a male matching the suspect description who appeared to be wielding a machete and threatening another male,” said RPS in a media release. “Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, the suspect did so and tried to escape on foot.”

After a brief struggle on the ground, police took the man into custody.

Hawk Drake Obey, 35, is charged with possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace; assault with a weapon; breach of probation; and resisting arrest.

He made an initial court appearance on Nov. 30, and will return for a second appearance on these charges on Dec. 7.
