Regina pair arrested on drugs, weapons charges

Police find pepper spray, loaded shot gun.

REGINA — Investigating a suspicious vehicle resulting in police laying a long list of weapons offences recently.

On May 6, at around 5:30 a.m., police discovered the vehicle and its occupants in an alley of the 1700 block of Quebec Street.

"Police approached the vehicle and located a female in the driver seat and a male standing outside the passenger side of the vehicle," said RPS in a media release.

A can of pepper spray was noticed on the front passenger seat of the vehicle, and both occupants were arrested on weapons offences.

"A loaded sawed off shotgun was located in the vehicle along with drugs," RPS said.

Kiri Haider, 31, and Cody Cardinal, 29, both of Regina were jointly charged with carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with, and careless storage of a firearm.

Haider was further charged with two count possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, plus a single count possession of a scheduled substance.

Both Haider and Cardinal will appear in Regina Provincial Court later today.
