Sask. man gets 1.7 years in jail for nightclub stabbings

SASKATOON – A man accused of stabbing three people at Divas Nightclub in Saskatoon was sentenced Monday in Saskatoon Provincial Court to 1.7 years in jail.

With credit for time served, Wahdan Yahia Ismaeil has 648 days left to serve as of March 18.

In December 2021, he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Saskatoon police had responded to Divas Nightclub at about 1 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2021, after three people were stabbed. Two were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Saskatoon Senior Crown Prosecutor Aaron Martens told SaskToday.ca in an email on Monday that he and defence counsel Brian Pfefferle made a joint sentencing submission in February. Ismaeil pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and possession of a restricted loaded firearm.
