Steffen Pohl's accused killer makes first appearance in Saskatoon court

SASKATOON – A man charged with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Steffen Pohl made his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday.

Nader Afzal Butter, 44, was arrested on Jan. 30 at a home in the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North.

Saskatoon police say they were called to the home approximately 7:20 a.m., Jan. 30, for a report of a death. When officers arrived, they found Pohl deceased. Police didn’t release his name but court documents obtained by SASKTODAY.ca identify the victim.

Butter was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Feb. 9 to give him time to obtain legal aid.

The charge against Butter hasn't been tested in court.
