Robert Lewis Sabin February 24, 1922 - November 21, 2011 Robert (Bob) Sabin, late of Outram, Sask., passed away in Estevan, Sask. on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the age of 89 years. Bob will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Dorothea of Estevan; five children: Marlyne (Wayne) Dolinsky of Brandon, Man., and their children, Dr. Vernon (Dr. Laura Cole) Dolinsky of Winnipeg, Man. and Jennifer (Dr. Yvan) Russell (Ilyana) of Iver, U.K.; Marilyn (Bill) Herschmiller of Vegreville, Alta. and their children Jackie (Mohsen) Mechlaqui of Edmonton, Alta. and Clark (Bonnie) Herschmiller (Brett and Keely) of Leduc, Alta.; Annette (Bill) Isely of Nipawin, Sask. and their children, James (Sheryl Plishka) Isely (Jett of Estevan, Sask. and Chantelle Burton of Nipawin, Sask.) Devin (Jolene Harris) Isley (Ashton and Oakley) of Nipawin, Sask.; Arlette Sabin (Pete Yoner) of Estevan Sask.; Randy (Vi) Sabin of Estevan, Sask. and her children, Veronica (Robert) Hattel of Fortuna, N.D. (Mary, Michael, Ely, Benjamin, Luke and Owen) and Heather (Todd) Daniels of Pierson, Man. (Hannah and John); brother, Archie (Kathy) Sabin, Alberta; sisters, Mae Buchholz, Alberta; Helen Mackie, B.C. and Elaine Pashko, Alta.; sisters-in-law, Esther Sabin, Saskatchewan; Mary-Anne Sabin, Alberta and Betty Ribling, Saskatchewan; brothers-in-law, Archie Shaver, Saskatchewan and Leif Nelson of B.C. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Janet Sabin; brothers, Alf, Bill and Clifford; sisters, Margaret Skappel, Elsie Sabin, Esther Marin, Josie Throssell, Stella Shaver and Mildred Nelson; sisters-in-law, Mary Sabin, Charlotte Kolke and Jean Sabin; brothers-in-law, Oliver Skappel, Everet Marin, Harvey Throssell, Ken Mackie, Ed Buchholz, Tex Pashko, Edgar Ribling, Leonard Ribling, Norman Ribling and Bruno Kolke; grandson, David Sabin. Bob was born the seventh of fourteen children at home in the Minton district. He enlisted in the army in 1943 but due to pleurisy was discharged six months later. He married Dorothea Ribling on December 16, 1947. Their first home was in Roan Mare Coulee at the base of the buffalo jump near Minton, Sask. They moved to the Outram area in June 1948, where they ranched/farmed and lived until his passing. He preferred working the cattle with his horses. Friends and family enjoyed his story telling abilities, his poetry writings and recitations, bead creations and rug making. He found fossils and arrow heads on his land and even collected pebbles if he found them interesting. He enjoyed different people and appreciated their differences. Visits from his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews brought the biggest smile to his face. A funeral service for Bob was held on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Torquay, Sask. with Pastor Bob Schultz officiating. Interment followed in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Outram, Sask. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Bob to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan or the Church of the Lutheran Brethren Canada. Arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, Sask. Thank You The family of the late Robert Sabin wished to express sincere thanks to relatives, friends and neighbours for their many acts of kindness through prayer, cards, flowers, food, phone calls, memorial donations and visits. Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital for their loving care and support for Bob and his family. A sincere thank you to Pastor Bob Schultz for the beautiful funeral service and to the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies for making dainties and serving lunch. Thank you to the pallbearers. We wish to thank Ray Daae for recording the service for those unable to attend and thanks to Blair Daae for setting up the closed circuit TV for the Auditorium. A thank you is also extended to Bob Cranna for digging and closing the gravesite. Thank you to the staff of Hall Funeral Services for their compassionate care.
