SASKATOON — Ambassador of Belgium to Canada Patrick Van Gheel will pay an official visit to Saskatchewan this week with the ambition to reinforce the growing ties between Belgium and the province.

Starting his visit in Saskatoon, Ambassador Van Gheel will meet Belgian malt producer Boortmalt as well as fertilizer giant Canpotex and the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization. Agriculture, critical minerals and life sciences are three key important sectors that define our economic relations with Saskatchewan. He will also be visiting the local Belgian chocolatier Harden & Huyse Chocolates.

The second part of his visit will take Ambassador Van Gheel to Regina, where he will meet Province officials, the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership as well as the University of Regina.

"Belgium and Saskatchewan have seen their relations consistently grow over the years - trade flows have tripled over the last five years - and I hope my visit will illustrate our commitment to take those relations to the next level. Our common interests are diverse and multiple, let’s continue building a stronger relation, together," said Ambassador Van Gheel.
