REGINA - The province has announced that the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency and Saskatchewan Health Authority will kick off its first National Health Care Recruitment Tour later this month.

The tour will promote employment opportunities, benefits and incentives available in Saskatchewan for health care professionals. While there have been recruiting missions abroad, notably in the Philippines, this one will be focusing on eastern Canada.

The plan is for the SHRA and its CEO Erin Brady to join SHA in a recruiting tour of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland from September 22 to October 6. The plan is to meet with health care professionals, students and post-secondary institutions and sell them on Saskatchewan as a location.

There will be two large career fairs and on-and-off-campus meet and greet events in Toronto, Montreal, St. John's, Charlottetown and Halifax. The plan is to meet with health care professionals, students and post-secondary institutions and sell them on Saskatchewan as a location.

"As part of our recruitment efforts, we will continue to promote our province as the great place it is, offering a lower cost of living, excellent wages and benefits, plus strong health care teams and wonderful communities to join," Health Minister Everett Hindley said in a statement. "With the health care career opportunities and incentives in place, there has never been a better time to consider a move to Saskatchewan."

"I look forward to being a part of the team to recruit professionals from various in-demand health-care occupations to meet current and future resourcing needs, as well as showcase Saskatchewan," Brady said in a statement.

The province has also announced more progress on its ongoing efforts to recruit health care workers. Those include the following:

  • 411 conditional offers have been extended to Internationally Educated Nurses, or IENs for short. 119 IENs are now in the bridging program, including the first cohort of 25 that began the Transition to Registered Nursing in Canada 14-week pathway in late August.
  • 168 individuals, including IENs and Internationally Educated Health Care Professionals, have registered interest in pursuing their respective licensure pathway. Of those, 148 have initiated specific action plans and are in various stages of their licensure pathway.
