REGINA- Regina Police Service are reporting that a 38 year-old male who had been wanted for sexual assault now is facing multiple firearms charges.
The individual was arrested Wednesday and was scheduled for his first court appearance on the charges Thursday.
According to police, on Sept. 20 at around 6:20 p.m., officers from the RPS Street Gang Unit, SWAT team and Canine Unit searched a residence on the 4700 Block of 4th Avenue. Police say the investigation led them to believe a suspect who was wanted in a recent sexual assault was at the location, and that he had firearms in his possession.
Police report the suspect then tried to flee the residence, but he was apprehended by members of the Canine Unit. As the arrest was taking place, the suspect was bitten by the Police Service Dog and taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
In searching the residence, police also report they located an assault rifle, a semi-automatic firearm, and ammunition and magazines for both firearms.
The charges the individual faces are the following: Sexual Assault, two counts Possession of a Firearm, two counts Careless Storage of a Firearm, six counts Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order and three counts Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.
