HUMBOLDT — Original Humboldt is a dynamic historic site, which will host a unique opportunity for land-based learning so close to community of Humboldt.

For two weekends in June Original Humboldt is the site of a professional archaeological dig. In 1878, almost 150 years ago, the Dominion telegraph line reached this area. Telegraph operator and lineman, Catherine and George Weldon respectively, made their home there for four years. Archaeology can help us unearth clues about their everyday lives, and the lives of everyone who lived here all those years ago.

“Over the weekend of June 17 to June 18, and the weekend of June 24 to 25, the archaeological site at Original Humboldt will present a rare opportunity for everyone to take part in a real archaeological excavation," the museum said. "And don’t worry if you don’t know anything about archaeology – our friends at the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society and Western Heritage will teach you everything about archaeological digs that you need to know.”

If you are looking for a unique weekend activity for yourself or your family, maybe try archaeology! Getting involved is totally free, but all amateur archaeologists do need to pre-register. Call 306.682.5226 or email info@humboldtmuseum.ca to sign up or find out more!
