Teen charged in death of 53-year-old in Regina

Regina Police say charges of manslaughter and failure to stop after accident were laid on 18-year-old in connection to death investigation dating back to 2021.

REGINA - Regina Police Service say they have laid charges in connection to a death investigation dating back to July 2021.

Police say that as a result of their investigation, members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested an 18 year-old male on Sept. 29, and he has been charged with Manslaughter and Failure To Stop After Accident That Results In Death [CC 320.16 (3)].

The individual was a youth at the time of the offence and cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is due to make his first court appearance on Monday, October 2,at 9:30 a.m. in Provincial Youth Court.

According to police, on July 24th, 2021 at approximately 1:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the east alley of the 800 block of Queen Street regarding an injured male. EMS also attended the scene and pronounced the 53 year-old male, identified as Lionel Gary Schaeffer, deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by Regina Police Service Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, has determined the death to be a homicide.
