Clarkson Cup to visit city

The Clarkson Cup, the championship trophy of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), will be visiting the City of Yorkton Saturday, August 1 as the Prairie Toyota Clarkson Cup tour stops in Yorkton.

The Clarkson Cup, the championship trophy of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), will be visiting the City of Yorkton Saturday, August 1 as the Prairie Toyota Clarkson Cup tour stops in Yorkton.

The trophy will be at the Westend Tim Horton’s (375 Broadway St. W).

Joining the Clarkson Cup in Yorkton will be a pair of Olympic gold medallists and Amazing Race Canada competitors Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson.

Both Spooner and Mikkelson are members of the Canadian National women’s hockey team as well as members of two different CWHL teams with Spooner playing for the Toronto Furies while Mikkelson, who hails  from Regina, plays for the Calgary Inferno.

In addition, there will be a mobile synthetic ice rink where kids can test their hockey skills, so people are encouraged to bring skates, helmets and sticks.

The event, which begins at 3:00p.m. and ends at 7:00p.m., is free to attend.
