The Yorkton Sherring Gold Pee Wee ‘AA’ Terriers find themselves in very familiar territory.

The Sherring Gold Terriers, winners of the last three Provincial titles and last three SSMHL Pee Wee Division titles (four if one counts the Kozie Drywall Terriers of 2010/11) are once again in the final round of both the league and provincial playoffs after marching through both tournament brackets.

League

The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers had to wait for the first round of the SSMHL Pee Wee playoffs to wrap up before they got their 2015 SSMHL playoff campaign underway thanks to a first round bye.

Their opponents in the SSMHL Pee Wee semi-finals were their usual foe the Weyburn Youngfellow Wings; an opponent they were all too familiar with having defeated them in the playoffs and provincials each of the last three seasons.

Game One in Yorkton saw the two teams skate to a scoreless first period.

The second period saw Yorkton regular season leading scorer Jackson Berezowski find a way to put the puck past Weyburn goaltender Jordan Muhr for a 1-0 Sherring Gold Terrier lead after 40 minutes of play.

Back-to-back Austin Dycer goals in the third period made it 3-0 Yorkton before a Steven Kesslering goal with 3:39 left in the period broke the Kael DePape shutout bid in what turned out to be a 3-1 Yorkton win.

Game Two was the opposite of Game One. While defence was the name of the game in the first game of the series, offence was what was on tap for Game Two as the two teams combined for 13 goals in 60-plus minutes of hockey capped off by a Ryder Korczak game winning overtime goal to send Yorkton back to the league finals for the fifth season in a row.

Also scoring for Yorkton in Game Two were Berezowski with a hattrick, Mitchel Madsen and Dycer while Korczak added another goal in the third period.

Steven Kesslering had three goals in a losing effort for Weyburn while Riley Skarbon notched two goasl in the defeat. League leading scorer Ethan Ernst scored the other Weyburn goal for his only point of the series.

Spencer Welke picked up the series clinching win for Yorkton while Muhr was saddled with his second straight loss of the series.

The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers will now take on the top ranked Swift Current Southwest Terminal Broncos in the SSMHL Pee Wee Division final. Game One will be in Swift Current with Game Two back in Yorkton. Dates have not been announced.

Swift Current dispatched Estevan in two games in their semi-final series, beating the Bruins by scores of 9-4 and 9-3.

Provincials

The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers are also in their fourth consecutive Provincial final after eliminating the Regina City champion Regina Mustangs in their two game total goal series 12-6.

Yorkton beat Regina 6-3 in Game One at Yorkton’s Kinsmen Arena before defeating the Mustangs by an identical 6-3 score in Game Two in Regina.

They will now take on the Saskatoon Express in the Provincial final. Game One will be Saturday, March 21 in Saskatoon.

Saskatoon knocked off Tisdale in their semi-final 9-8, tying Game One 5-5 before edging Tisdale 4-3 in Game Two.
