The Yorkton Terriers are sitting on a 2-3-2 record after another week of action on the ice.

On Saturday, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Terriers faced the Notre Dame Hounds at the Farrell Agencies Arena. In a game that lacked energy from the entire stadium, the Terriers fell 4-1 to the Hounds.

It was a slow start for the Terriers, which in turn led to a few quick connections with the back of the net for the Hounds.

“We’ll change that by the way we practice,” said head coach Casey O’Brien when asked about his team’s trend of starting off slow this season. O’Brien said a switch in drills and how they warm up might result in a faster-pace game. “I obviously have to change my pregame speech for that as well,” he joked.

A positive note from the game against Notre Dame was a lower number of penalties from the Terriers. O’Brien has already spoken about the need for fewer penalties from his team, and it looks like they’re heading in the right direction.

“This was the first time we were under five penalties in a game all season,” he said. “Our discipline still needs to be better. If we can get to the one or two mark, then that’ll be better.”

O’Brien also said that the low number of penalties from Saturday’s game could have been due to the fact the work ethic of the Terriers wasn’t 100 per cent.

“Personally, I didn’t think we had a very good game tonight,” said O’Brien. “We didn’t play to our capability.”

The team came to life at the end of the third period and applied some heavy pressure to the Hounds. This resulted in their one goal scored by Regan Seiferling, his second of the season. The final shot clock was 33-26 for the Terriers.

“The last ten minutes of the third we played very good, we showed them what we can be,” said O’Brien. “But we have to get through the starts.”

Four days prior, the Terriers faced the Flin Flon Bombers in Warman, a medium meeting ground for the two teams.

This high scoring game was tied 5-5 at the end of the third, forcing yet another overtime period for the Terriers this season.

The Bombers came out on top, scoring in the OT period. The final score was 6-5. Terriers goals came from Cole Keenleyside, Kaleb Bell, Corwin Stevely and a pair from Tyler Baier.

The Terriers have a week off from game action to prepare for their next match, which will take place on home ice on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Melville Millionaires.
