BORDEN — The Borden Friendship Club held their regular meeting Jan.10. Attendance was low due to the colder weather. Reports were heard regarding cards sent out, finances and entertainment. The club is donating $100 a month from January to June to the Borden School breakfast program and will be holding a Valentine’s Tea and Bake sale Friday, Feb. 16 with door prizes and a 50/50. All proceeds will be going to Telemiracle.

Entertaining at the Jan. 25 potluck supper are John Reimer and Karey Quiring. The Feb. 29 supper will feature Celtic Country and in March someone will be speaking on frauds and scams.

The annual meeting will be held at the April potluck supper when hopefully more will be in attendance. It was decided not to hold a potluck supper at the end of May as it comes just before we invite other clubs at the beginning of June.

Room rental rates have been changed to $10 an hour from the time the keys are picked up to when the keys are returned. For those who rent every week or for an extended time, rates will remain the same.

The Borden Lions held their first meeting of 2024 Jan. 4 with 19 members in attendance. President Tom Redhead welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order, with Ed Neufeld appointed as Tail Twister. A new member, Brittany Kletzel, was welcomed to the club and, with Kendall Redhead resigning as secretary, Brittany was voted to become secretary for the remainder of the year. Carly Hess brought ideas for fundraising – a flea market outdoors in May and a golf tournament in June.

Heather Bisson updated the Mother’s Day Brunch preparations for May 12 with proceeds going to diabetes. Updates on Chase the Ace were presented with Ed Neufeld winning $60 that night. The raffle will continue until Feb. 15. The winner of $57 Jan. 11 was Ian Tracksell of Borden.

The club is donating $150 to the ministerial account and $200 to the school breakfast program.

The district governor is planning to visit Borden Thursday, March 14, when the members and guests will dine out with members and partners paying their own. The club pays for the district governor and guests.
