BATTLEFORD — Conservation officers are asking the public for help after an animal was unlawfully harvested on private farmland south of Battleford.

On Aug. 15, officers received a call reporting that an animal had been shot along the Baljennie grid, according to information provided through SaskTip. Investigators determined a vehicle pulled onto a field approach, fired at the animal and then drove into a standing canola crop to retrieve it.

The vehicle later travelled about two kilometres south to a more secluded area, where the animal was field dressed. No evidence of the species was left behind.

Officers also learned the animal was shot within 500 metres of an occupied home. Witnesses reported hearing three rifle shots in the area around 8 p.m. on Aug. 14.
