MEADOW LAKE – A 26-year-old man with a history of repeated arrests, releases, and re-arrests is back in custody after escaping the Besnard Lake Correctional Centre in April.
Kobe Kynan Kiseyinewakup had his first appearance in Loon Lake court on Aug. 7 on his new charges and was remanded in custody. He is now scheduled back in court on Aug. 28. He was arrested by RCMP on May 9 in Mudie Lake.
Police say after Kiseyinewakup escaped, Loon Lake RCMP located him twice in their detachment area, near Loon Lake on April 26 and on Island Lake First Nation on May 7. During these incidents, officers had engaged their emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled.
His latest charges include escaping lawful custody, being unlawfully at large, two counts of flight from a police officer and driving while prohibited.
In 2023, Kiseyinewakup was wanted in February and arrested a month later by RCMP’s Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team on Island Lake Cree Nation.
He was wanted in an armed robbery that occurred in Pierceland on Feb. 16, 2023. Pierceland RCMP say that a man and a woman were parked in an SUV on the side of the road when two other vehicles approached them. The man got out of the SUV and there was an altercation between him and the people in the other two vehicles. He was shot and his SUV stolen. The couple were able to walk away and call for help. He was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Pierceland RCMP and Loon Lake RCMP searched for the suspects and found one of the vehicles later that evening on Island Lake First Nation and arrested three people. Police seized two prohibited firearms, ammunition, bear spray, and a machete from the vehicle.
Pierceland RCMP arrested two more people the next day and the stolen SUV was recovered on Mudie Lake First Nation. Then, after further investigation, police issued a warrant for Kiseyinewakup.
