The annual ball diamond clean-up will be on Saturday, May 4, starting at 10 a.m.

MAIDSTONE — I was down with a debilitating cold this past week and missed out on several local happenings. However, with taxes done and X on a ballot, it wasn’t a total loss. Now it’s on its way out, so hopefully I’ll catch up on everything this week.

The Catholic Ladies’ Altar Society thanks all who attended and helped with their bake sale and luncheon on April 23. Winners of the hamper raffles were Susan Thomson, Paul Donovan and Maidstone Food Bank. The door prize winner was Angela Zou.

Congratulations to the latest Chase the Ace winner at the Legion Club Room. James Croke took home $274, but the ace eluded him. This week's jackpot will be about $6,000 with 35 cards remaining. If it doesn't go this week, it will be over on May 8, with names drawn till a lucky winner finds the Ace of Spades. Remember to also get your 50/50 tickets for the draw to be made on May 10, the last day the Club Room is open until fall.

The windup for Maidstone Bowling Leagues took place last Friday evening. A potluck supper was followed by presentation of awards. Congratulations to all the winners. I'll have the results for next week. The annual general meeting covered a few topics such as the potential to have more tournaments throughout the year, ways to improve the leagues next season and the need to replace the floor on the bowling alley side. Coming up is the no-tap Spring League, which will run Thursdays, May 8 to 29 at 7 p.m. with teams of four people and a weekly fee of $20 per person for three games, shoes included. There will be men's and women's cash prizes each week. Team names must be entered by May 5, with the first four teams accepted. If two or more teams want to bowl in the afternoon, they'll be included. Call Dusty at 306-893-4439 or 306-895-3515.

The annual ball diamond clean-up will be on Saturday, May 4, starting at 10 a.m. Bring your work gloves, rakes and leaf blowers to the diamonds and help the local teams get things ready for the season.

Maidstone Disc Golf League is starting the 2025 season on May 6. Come out every Tuesday at 7 p.m. for socializing, exercise and healthy competition. It's open to all ages with a three-tier configuration, weekly prizes and special events. Check it all out and join up on their Facebook page or email [email protected].

Do you need a spring yard cleanup? Let the Grade 6 students help. They'll be out cleaning yards on Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7 to raise funds for their year-end trip to Telus World of Science. If you'd like to get on the list, call Mrs. Bellin or Mrs. Harding at Ratushniak School 306-893-2634, and they'll get you on the list.

Maidstone Minor Ball is running a 50/50 fundraiser at $10 per ticket. First prize is 30 per cent of the pot (up to $3,000), second prize 15 per cent (up to $1,500) and third prize five per cent (up to $500). The draw will be on Minor Ball Day, June 8, at 5 p.m. at the ball diamonds.
