Police ask for public's help after firearm discharged

Officers responded immediately and located a vehicle fleeing from the area.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - Two people are facing charges after a firearm was discharged in North Battleford.

On June 16 at approximately 7:20 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of the sound of gunshots near a residence on 106 Street.

Officers responded immediately and located a vehicle fleeing from the area. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle did not stop; it fled at a high rate of speed from police.

It was recovered abandoned on the northwest side of the city shortly after.

Later that day, officers with Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services located a vehicle with occupants matching the suspect descriptions from the initial call for service. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and as a result of the investigation, three males and a female were arrested.

A 19-year-old man, from North Battleford, and a 27-year-old man, from Red Pheasant Cree Nation, are each charged with:

  • one count, flight from peace officer;
  • one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • one count, resists/obstruct peace officer; and
  • one count, discharge firearm while being reckless.

The third male and the female were later released without charges.

The two men, who are facing charges, appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 17.

Battlefords RCMP continue to investigate.
