Old St. Vital Church building vandalized in series of attacks

Police received reports that a group of individuals – potentially youth – were smashing the building’s windows.

BATTLEFORD - Battlefords RCMP are investigating three separate vandalism incidents at the old St. Vital Church, a vacant church building on 20th Street in Battleford.

The building is believed to be the oldest Catholic church in Saskatchewan and the burial site of a priest

Police received reports on June 22 at 12:55 a.m. and 11:55 p.m., and on June 23 at 12:50 a.m., that a group of individuals – potentially youth – were smashing the building’s windows.

Police officers responded each time; no suspects were located. Aside from window damage, officers also noted that the building had been graffitied with spray paint.

Battlefords RCMP continue to investigate these incidents, including whether they are connected.
