Humboldt Collegiate celebrates success of student athletes

Humboldt Collegiate Institute celebrated its student athletes at a June 7 banquet.

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Collegiate Institute Athletic Awards and Banquet highlighted this school year’s athletic success.

On June 7, Ben Yungmann won the Senior Male Athlete of the Year award, while Kate MacLean claimed the Senior Female honour. Alexus Roach was the Junior Female Athlete of the Year. Easton Ottmann received the Junior Boys Athlete of the Year award.

MacLean also received another one of the night’s biggest awards – the Tyler Bieber and Brody Hinz Memorial Football Reporters of Canada Award. It is presented in honour of the late Tyler Bieber and Brody Hinz to the most prepared athlete.

Jocelyne Durand earned the American Hockey League Broadcasters Tyler Bieber and Brody Hinz Memorial Award in recognition of her commitment to communications in sports.

Dallin Fraser received the Jacob Leicht Memorial Award. It is presented in memory of the Humboldt product to a U18 hockey player who displays dedication and a strong work ethic as well as intention to study at the post-secondary level.

Coach Nicole Unrau was presented an award from the Horizon Central Athletic Association in recognition of distinguished service. Unrau and Kerri Archibald serve as the HCI athletic directors.
