According to the SHA’s 2022–23 annual report, diagnostic imaging such as X-rays and ECGs are among the most frequently used services in rural facilities.

NIPAWIN — The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has issued a public notice for Nipawin and area residents regarding a temporary service disruption.

The SHA advised that on Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22, walk-in X-ray and ECG services will be unavailable from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to an unexpected staff shortage.

The notice said only emergency cases and patients with scheduled appointments will be accommodated during the disruption.

According to the SHA, services are expected to return to normal capacity in the afternoons on both days.

Health care staffing shortages have been an ongoing challenge in Saskatchewan. A 2024 report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information found that Saskatchewan has one of the highest vacancy rates for health-care workers in Western Canada.
