Borden and District News: Pancake supper raises $410 for care home

Speers Dinner Theatre returns with 'When Bullfrogs Sing Opera'

BORDEN — St. John’s Anglican Church hosted a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Feb. 21 in the Borden Friendship Club Room. Close to 50 people turned out for the evening and the proceeds of $410.00 were donated to the Borden Care Home. After the meal, Rev. Sheldon Carr burned the palm leaves from Easter 2022 outside the Borden Community Centre, with those brave enough to venture out in the cold. A brief ceremony was held for the burning of palms. These ashes were then used at the Ash Wednesday 11 a.m. service at St. John’s Church to place a cross on the forehead of participants. Feb. 24, the cheque for $410 was presented to Sister Peter at the Borden Care Home prior to the lenten church service at the care home led by Rev. Carr.

The Borden Friendship Club held their monthly potluck supper Feb. 23 in the Borden Community Centre with 37 members out to enjoy the evening. The tables were tastefully decorated by Brenda Tumbach. Ed Neufeld welcomed everyone, gave the blessing and after the meal, with no birthdays, gave updates on the March 11 invitation to Langham and the May 6 bus trip to Meacham Theatre is full. Those going need to pay the $65 fee by March 30. The bus trip is costing $1,575 and it is hoped a grant can be obtained to cover this. Ed then introduced the guest musician Phil Miller, playing guitar and singing.
