Carollers will judge lighting efforts

Christmas lights are going up in many places in the village. As has been the custom for the last few years the lights will be judged by a group of people who will be Christmas carolling around the village.

Belated birthday greetings to Ruth Sutherland who recently celebrated her 70th birthday. Part of the day's celebration was a come and go tea at Waseca Community Centre where many friends and relatives enjoyed a visit with her.

We were saddened to hear the passing of a long-time Waseca resident Evelyn Strasser, who died Nov. 16. Evelyn and her late husband, Art, were active members of the Waseca community for many years. We met her often at the Waseca Seniors' Centre (now the community centre) where she enjoyed the many activities that took place there. Her cheerfulness and lively sense of humour are well remembered. Our sympathy goes out to her daughter, Marie Wolgien and her husband and family of Lashburn and Cindy Strasser and her daughters of Lloydminster and her many relatives and friends who will have many happy memories of their association with her.

It's shopping time when Christmas time is approaching! Last week Bev Hult and daughter, Melissa, and Janet Makey boarded a Garon Coach at Waseca and, along with other passengers, enjoyed a day of shopping in Edmonton

Did you know there are some 9,000 spaces of birds, 650 of which live in North America? They vary in size from a hummingbird, which may weigh one-tenth of an ounce, to an African ostrich, which can weigh over 300 pounds. The poultry industry depends on domesticated fowl. mostly chickens, turkeys and ducks. The chicken was domesticated in Mexico and reached Europe in the 16th century. The duck was domesticated in Asia.
