Borden hosted Diefenbaker Days June 3 to 5.

The event started with a perogy and ham supper along with silent auction June 3 in the Borden Community Centre, with the Community Centre Preservation Committee hosting the event to raise funds to renovate the men's bathroom. The group raised $3,000 from the 130 in attendance and over 40 silent auction items.

Saturday morning the slo-pitch ball games with 10 teams entered began playing at 10 a.m., The Kids' Zone playground with a velcro wall and Astrojump was set up and kids could play all two days as much as they wanted for a $5 bracelet.

Sadie Funk had a lemonade stand set up with brownies, candies and other items for sale with part of proceeds going to the parks and recreation. A chair massage station was set up by the beer gardens with part of proceeds also going to parks and recreation.

Saturday tickets were sold on the cow patty bingo for $10 and Sunday, after 90 squares had been sold, the yearling heifer was let out in the pen which was marked in grid. She soon made a deposit on the square bought by Rick Simmons of Speers, who took home $450.

Saturday afternoon, the Borden Museum held their official opening, with Wyatt Piprell playing O Canada on his trumpet while Don Brand raised the Canadian flag. James Steele, the student who is working for the museum, played a few toe tapping tunes on his fiddle. James was the Saskatchewan 2010 Fiddle Champion and in July he will be attending the national competition in Alberta.

The Borden Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 1 to 5 p.m., with James there for five days and volunteer working on Sundays.

The parks and recreation board served a steak supper at the grounds Saturday, selling all their available steaks despite the chilly evening. Many brave souls hung around until 1 a.m. for karaoke.

The morning of June 5 the parks and recreation board served a pancake breakfast at the grounds and the ball games started at 10 a.m. The Pipsqueaks had a game after lunch, then the slo-pitch ball continued into the evening. Radisson outplayed the team of Kris Derbowka from Borden to take home first place money.

At 11:30 a.m. there was an ecumenical service in the Borden Seniors' Room, with the youth group band providing the music for the hymns. Members are George Hembery, Lyndon Block, Michael Crabb and Mark Bigland Pritchard on piano and Jaimie Branderick helping out on guitar. Reading scriptures and giving a brief message were Gayle Wensley of the United Church and Tony Martens of RiverBend Fellowship. Rev. Jan Bigland-Pritchard of St. John's Anglican led prayers with George Hembery reading the scriptures. The offering went to the ministerial discretionary fund after expenses.

A Borden School Kindergarten graduation ceremony was held during assembly May 31. Ms. Weightman introduced each grad, told what they liked about school and what they wished to become when they grew up. She presented each one with a scroll and a flower to present to their moms. Graduating to Grade 1 were Sydney Schmidt, David Gough, Noah Braun, Katelyn Worona, Bill Hosegood and Nicholas Siebert.

After the ceremony, they returned to their classroom, where they put on a skit and sang for their parents and grandparents then enjoyed ice cream.

The assembly continued with Grade 3 and 4 announcing the leaders in the NHL hockey pool. Junior golfers Connor Wainwright, Avery Fairbrother and Brandon Joynt-Skillingstad competed in districts June 9. Mr. George and Mr. Link had introduced the junior and senior badminton players. Sheri Sutherland announced the results from track and field competitions. Borden had 39 students in the first session and 30 qualified for the next level resulting in Borden receiving the Kirkpatrick Trophy for the highest ratio of students participating. Setting school records were Dustin Bezugly in 200 and 800 metre and George Hembery in hurdles. Deanna Wall qualified to go to provincials, which were not held.

June 1 was Royal Purple Day and at Radisson those 50 and older were invited to an annual strawberry tea and program. Attending were 10 from Radisson, five from Maymont and 22 from Radisson. Each went home with a door prize. Winning the 50/50 draw of $30.50 was Gertie Sherman of Maymont. Strawberry shortcake and beverages were served. Tina Hessell handed out two boxes of children's puzzles , one to each side of the room, and they had to mingle to fit their puzzles together, with the team getting completed first receiving a prize. The Royal Purple ladies had a display of their history books, brochures and charity appeal tickets for sale.

A 90th birthday come and go tea was held June 5 in the Borden Community Centre to honour Marcella Kulig of Borden. Her daughters Bernice (Ken) Marling of Winnipeg and Leona (Dennis) Klath of Saskatoon along with their five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were on hand to help Marcella celebrate her special day. After the family was introduced, Marcella cut the cake and Happy Birthday was sung, then everyone mingled to visit.
