Finches add to a colourful yard

This week I saw goldfinches for the first time this spring. The yellow warblers are also here, so between the two they make quite a splash of color.

This week I saw goldfinches for the first time this spring. The yellow warblers are also here, so between the two they make quite a splash of color. The yards are very colourful right now with lilacs, white flowers on many trees and shrubs including, saskatoons, apples and many others. Although a little late, the trees are loaded with blossoms and hopefully they didn't freeze. In many locations there has been enough frost lately to freeze crops and gardens so there will be some reseeding taking place.

Linda and Bill McGilvery recently spent some time at Invermere, B.C. where they visited with Evelyn McGree and family. With the Manitou Dance Jamboree coming up they will be doing a little more traveling. They always enjoy the jamborees.

The month of June is always a 4-H month with achievement days in many locations. June 4, I was pleased to attend the Maidstone Gully 4-H Achievement day. It is a pleasure to see some of the activities and displays that are a culmination of many months of work by the members under the direction of their leaders. The displays, projects books and activities were, as usual, excellent. Congratulations to the members, leaders and parents who co-operate to make the 4-H club so worthwhile.
